Dear Dave

This is prof enough for me. Thanks for bringing this information to me. I c=
an now start to figure out a way to build a 1200 gallon tank that fits over=
the tank of the Atlas model.

=20

I have already cut down the 1600 gallon tank on the Proto2000 model to repr=
esent a 1200 gallon tank on an early GP9. The Athearn GP9 model has the cor=
rect sixe for later GP9:s.

=20

It=E2=80=99s a nice detail to have different and correct tanks on different=
GP7 and GP9.

Only direct resource I have (since no one has yet responded) is the 'RGMHS =
Rio Grande Source Data Vol 2' which includes 'Folio 10' folder for document=
identified as 'General Description- Diesel Electric locomotives' dated Jan=
2 1963 Issued by Chief Mechanical Officer John Ayer Jr.=20

These are the mechanical engineering drawings w technical specs and paint i=
ndicated.

=20

Sheet 15-A of Folio 10 (Issue date Jul 1 1961) gives 1500 HP Road Switchers=
EMD GP7 Fuel Oil capacity 1200 gallons for units 5100- 5113 (Nov 1950- Jul=
1952 ).

=20

Sheet 15-D Folio 10 (Issue date Jul 1 1961) gives 1750 HP Road Switchers E=
MD GP9:

units 5901- 5924- 1200 gallons (May 1955) and=20

units 5931- 5954- 1600 gallons (June 1955- Jul 1956).

=20

Your assertion appears correct. Nothing else on the roster except switchers=
had less than these, so I guess 800g may be based on an 'Eastern' road tha=
t didn't wander far from sustenance ;-}.

=20

Trust this helps,=20

Hi,

The size of GP7 fue! l tanks have been discussed on the list several times.=
All agree that GP7 and the first batch of GP9 had a smaller tank and that =
the second batch of GP9 had a larger tank.

=20

The size of the smaller tank has been stated as both 800 gallons and 1200 g=
allons. The larger tank seems to be 1600 gallons.

=20

Atlas latest release of DRGW GP7 has a 800 gallons tank. All the photos I h=
ave seen indicates that the smaller tank was 1200 gallons.

=20

Is there any official documentation from Rio Grande where the size of the t=
anks is stated?
